Red Wings Owner Engages Search Firm for New General Manager

Detroit Red Wings owner Christopher Ilitch has engaged a search firm to assist in identifying a new general manager for the team, as reported by the Detroit Free Press.

This decision comes after franchise icon Steve Yzerman stepped down from the position three weeks ago. Yzerman had been the general manager since 2019 and did not lead the team to the playoffs during his tenure.

The new general manager will be tasked with addressing the team's ongoing playoff drought and managing captain Dylan Larkin's trade request. Currently, assistant general manager Shawn Horcoff is fulfilling the GM responsibilities while the search for new leadership is underway.
