Reds Designate Kent Emanuel for Assignment After Strong Debut
The Cincinnati Reds have designated pitcher Kent Emanuel for assignment after he made a notable debut against the St. Louis Cardinals. Emanuel, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Louisville earlier in the day, pitched five innings, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four batters.
Despite his strong performance, the Reds were unable to secure a win, managing only one run against the Cardinals' rookie pitcher. Emanuel's outing was particularly impressive given that he had recently been playing in the independent Atlantic League. However, due to the need for fresh arms, the Reds opted to recall right-handed pitcher Zach Maxwell from Triple-A Louisville to take Emanuel's place on the roster.
This appearance marks Emanuel's third season in Major League Baseball, having previously pitched for the Houston Astros and Miami Marlins. His career statistics include a 4.46 ERA and a mix of pitches featuring a sinker, slider, and changeup. With the trade deadline passed, Emanuel will be placed on waivers, where he may attract interest from teams looking for a long reliever or spot starter.
