Reds Designate Sam Moll for Assignment
The Cincinnati Reds have announced the designation of left-handed reliever Sam Moll for assignment. His roster position will be taken by right-handed reliever Graham Ashcraft, who is coming back from the 60-day injured list.
This move may mark the conclusion of Moll's tenure with the Reds, who acquired him from the Athletics in exchange for righty Joe Boyle prior to the 2023 trade deadline. Moll had been a dependable part of the Reds' bullpen until 2024, achieving a 2.31 ERA and a 48.1% ground-ball rate over his first 62 1/3 innings with the team.
Despite being healthier this season, Moll has struggled to regain his previous form. Following a recent outing where he allowed two earned runs in one inning against the Brewers, he now holds a 4.79 ERA across 56 1/3 innings. His ground-ball rate has improved to a career-best 51.6%, but he has faced challenges with below-average strikeout and walk rates of 21.8% and 11.7%, respectively.
