Reggie Bush Accuses NCAA of Defamation Over Unproven Claims
Reggie Bush, a former running back for the New Orleans Saints and 2005 Heisman Trophy winner, has publicly criticized the NCAA for allegations made in 2021 that he was paid to play college football. Bush stated that the NCAA has not provided evidence to support these claims, which he describes as false.
During his time at USC, Bush achieved significant accolades, including two All-American honors and the Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year awards. However, a 2006 report revealed that his parents lived in a rent-free home owned by a marketing agent, leading to an NCAA investigation and subsequent sanctions against USC in 2010, which included vacating 14 wins and a two-year bowl ban.
Despite regaining his Heisman Trophy in 2024 after a rule change, Bush's career faced challenges following the NCAA's statements. He claims that these allegations negatively impacted his role as a studio analyst at Fox Sports, resulting in a contract dispute. Bush has filed a defamation lawsuit against the NCAA, asserting that the organization’s claims have harmed his reputation and that he never received payment for playing college football.
