Revamped Meeks Ridge Trail Set to Reopen in Lake Tahoe by 2027
The Meeks Ridge Trail in Lake Tahoe is undergoing restoration and is expected to reopen in 2027, thanks to a $250,000 donation from local tech philanthropists Kyle and Jessica Aster. This trail, located on the west shore, will offer new recreational opportunities for hikers and mountain bikers.
Trail crews have been working on the project for three years, with construction beginning in 2023. The trail will ascend approximately 1,400 feet over 4.5 miles, providing scenic views of the Tahoe Basin and Desolation Wilderness, while also connecting to existing trails for a total loop of 12 miles.
The restoration effort received an earlier $100,000 grant from the Tahoe Fund, which supports environmental initiatives in the area. The Asters' contribution is seen as a significant investment in the future of recreation and community in Tahoe.
