Revised 2026 WEC Calendar Sparks Intense Title Race

The 2026 World Endurance Championship is set for an exciting second half, featuring four races over just two months, following the addition of two new events in Europe.

The calendar adjustments, made necessary by the cancellation of the Qatar round due to the Iran war, include a debut race in Barcelona and a season finale at Monza, replacing Bahrain. These changes have also modified the points system, reducing the total available points by 26, which impacts the championship standings significantly.

Currently, Robin Frijns and Rene Rast lead the Hypercar standings with 75 points, tied with Le Mans winners Kamui Kobayashi, Nyck de Vries, and Mike Conway. The competition remains tight, with BMW and Toyota as the primary contenders, while Ferrari and Cadillac also vie for position. The upcoming races promise to be crucial as teams adapt to the new challenges presented by the revised venues.
