RFU Delays Start of England's Community Rugby Season Due to Drought

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has announced a delay in the start of England's community rugby season, now set to begin no earlier than the week of September 21, due to drought conditions impacting player welfare and pitch conditions.

Currently, 71.3% of England is experiencing drought, with the country facing its driest July since 1836. Many rugby pitches are considered unsafe for full-contact play, and no significant rainfall is expected before the original start date of September 5.

In response to the situation, the RFU has advised its members on managing pitches during drought and conducting risk assessments. RFU president Sir Bill Beaumont acknowledged the disappointment this decision may cause among clubs, schools, and players, emphasizing that player safety remains a priority.
