Rhys McClenaghan Aims for Fourth European Title Amid Recovery
Rhys McClenaghan is preparing to compete in the Men's Artistic European Championships in Zagreb, aiming for his fourth European title. Following a sixth-place finish at the Commonwealth Games, where he debuted a new routine, McClenaghan has returned to training to address the issues he encountered during the competition.
After the Commonwealth Games, McClenaghan immediately began refining his routine, making minor adjustments rather than a complete overhaul. He has previously bounced back from setbacks, such as failing to reach the European finals four years ago before winning his first world title shortly after. He believes that small changes can lead to significant improvements.
As he continues to recover from a shoulder injury that sidelined him throughout 2025, McClenaghan acknowledges the nerves that accompany competition. He aims to be more composed and relaxed in upcoming events. With new gymnastics rules favoring all-around gymnasts, he recognizes the challenge but is determined to adapt and improve as he prepares for the 2028 Olympics.
