In addition to his racing accomplishments, Petty has been recognized for his civic contributions, including receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1992 and establishing Victory Junction, a summer camp for children with medical conditions. The 2026 North Carolina Award ceremony will also honor other recipients in various fields, highlighting the state's commitment to recognizing exceptional contributions.
