Richmond Tigers Outline Draft Strategy Ahead of AFL Trade Period
As the AFL trade period approaches its conclusion, Richmond's list manager Blair Hartley has detailed the team's strategy for the upcoming 2027 draft. He emphasized the importance of securing talent before Tasmania joins the competition.
Hartley noted that Richmond is aiming for Port Adelaide's Pick 5 and is considering using a future first-round pick due to the unique circumstances surrounding Tasmania's entry. He explained that Tasmania will have access to a broader pool of players, including those born in 2009, which will significantly affect the draft landscape.
Currently, Tasmania holds multiple high draft picks for their inaugural 2027 draft and has already signed several players. Hartley acknowledged the need for flexibility in Richmond's approach, indicating that the team will evaluate its list and explore various avenues for talent acquisition in the coming years.
