Richmond Tigers Release Three Players Ahead of AFL Draft

Richmond has announced that it will not be renewing contracts for players Tyler Sonsie, James Trezise, and Samson Ryan as part of its preparations for the upcoming AFL Draft.

The decision affects a trio of players who were among several without contract offers for the 2027 season. Sonsie, who was drafted with Pick 28 in 2021, played 55 games for the club. Ryan participated in 31 matches over six seasons, primarily as a ruck-forward, while Trezise, a mid-season acquisition in 2023, appeared in 38 games as a rebounding defender.

Richmond's Executive General Manager of Football Talent, Blair Hartley, expressed gratitude for the contributions of the departing players. The club is also in the process of finalizing contracts for several other players, including Hugo Ralphsmith and Judson Clarke. Recently, Richmond acquired Fremantle winger Nathan O'Driscoll and former Giants ruckman Kieren Briggs, who signed a four-year deal.
