RJ Luis Receives Court Approval to Play for LSU

RJ Luis, a former player for the Jazz and Celtics, has been granted a temporary injunction by a Louisiana judge, enabling him to potentially play for LSU in the 2026/27 season.

The 6’7″ guard/forward was named Big East Player of the Year in 2024/25 while at St. John’s and declared for the 2025 NBA draft but went undrafted. He signed a two-way contract with Utah in July 2025, was traded to the Celtics, and appeared in three preseason games before being cut in October 2025. After re-signing with the Celtics on an Exhibit 10 contract, an injury sidelined him for the entire last season.

The NCAA is expected to challenge Luis's eligibility, as he did not participate in any regular season games in the NBA or G League. The judge noted that Luis did not actually play professional basketball, raising questions about his prior advisement when he left college.
