Rob Refsnyder Retires from Baseball After 11-Year Career

Rob Refsnyder, a former outfielder for the New York Yankees and an 11-year veteran of Major League Baseball, has announced his retirement from the sport. The 35-year-old made this decision shortly after being released by the Seattle Mariners on August 4, opting not to pursue another minor-league contract.

Refsnyder began his professional career with the Yankees, who drafted him in the fifth round of the 2012 draft. He made his MLB debut in 2015 and played parts of three seasons with New York before being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in 2017. Over his time with the Yankees, he played 94 games, achieving a batting average of .241 with two home runs and 13 doubles.

After his tenure in New York, Refsnyder played for several teams, including the Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers, and Minnesota Twins, before finding success with the Boston Red Sox from 2022 to 2025. During his four seasons in Boston, he hit 27 of his career total of 37 home runs and recorded an OPS+ of 123. His final season with the Mariners in 2026 was challenging, as he batted only .140 in 114 at-bats. Ultimately, he chose to retire rather than continue in the minor leagues, concluding a career characterized by versatility and resilience.
