Rob Smedley Commends Audi's F1 Power Unit Facilities

Rob Smedley, a former race engineer for Ferrari, has expressed admiration for Audi's Formula 1 power unit facilities, describing them as exceptional. During a discussion on the High Performance Racing podcast, he noted the impressive scale and quality of Audi's investment in its engine department.

Smedley acknowledged the challenges Audi faced after acquiring the Sauber operation, but emphasized the advancements made in their powertrain capabilities. He remarked on the historical struggles of Sauber in recent years and pointed out that Audi's facilities in Germany are among the best in the industry, with ongoing expansions planned.

As of now, Audi's team, which includes drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto, is positioned eighth in the constructors' championship after 12 races of the 2026 season. The next race, the Italian Grand Prix, is scheduled to occur at Monza from September 4 to 6.
