Rob Smedley Explains Decision to Decline F1 Team Principal Roles
Rob Smedley, known for his work with Ferrari and Williams, has disclosed that he declined offers for Formula 1 team principal roles due to concerns over accountability without full control of a team.
During a discussion on the High Performance Racing podcast, Smedley highlighted his reluctance to accept such positions, emphasizing that a team principal is responsible for all aspects of the team, yet may only have control over a portion of it. He expressed that being held accountable for areas beyond one's control is illogical.
Smedley clarified that he is open to high-pressure roles, provided he has the necessary authority to manage the team effectively. He believes that accountability should align with control, stating that it is unreasonable to be responsible for outcomes when one cannot influence all parts of the team.
