Rockies Promote Vimael Machin, Willi Castro Placed on Injured List
The Colorado Rockies have officially selected the contract of infielder Vimael Machin ahead of their game against the St. Louis Cardinals. In a corresponding move, Willi Castro has been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to September 2, due to left heel inflammation.
Castro has been dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot and a sore right knee, which has kept him out of action since Monday. If Castro's condition does not improve, he may be sidelined for the remainder of the season. He concludes his 2026 campaign with a batting line of .260/.331/.417 and a career-high 15 home runs over 477 plate appearances.
Machin, who signed a minor league deal with the Rockies during the offseason, has performed well in Triple-A Albuquerque, hitting .290/.371/.445 with 12 home runs. He has experience at multiple infield positions and is expected to fill in for Castro, although the Rockies may focus on giving younger players more playing time as the season winds down.
