Rockies Remove Tyler Freeman from 40-Man Roster

The Colorado Rockies have announced the outright assignment of Tyler Freeman to Triple-A, following the placement of Willi Castro on the 10-day injured list and the selection of Vimael Machin's contract. This move was necessary to make room for Machin on the 40-man roster.

Freeman, who has over three years of MLB service time, has the right to decline this assignment and opt for free agency. The Rockies retain two additional years of arbitration control over him, but the outright assignment may lead to a non-tender decision this winter, prompting Freeman to consider free agency sooner.

This season, Freeman has recorded a batting average of .247 with three home runs across 288 plate appearances, resulting in a wRC+ of 67. He has primarily played as a second baseman, right fielder, and designated hitter, but his offensive struggles, compounded by back issues, have limited his playing time. In contrast, he had a more productive 2025 season, achieving a wRC+ of 92 with a .281 batting average.
