Roger Craig Inducted into Hall of Fame with Lifelong Friend Jamie Williams by His Side
Roger Craig is being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, with Jamie Williams, his childhood friend and former teammate, presenting him at the ceremony in Canton, Ohio. Their friendship began in first grade when they played kickball together in Davenport, Iowa, and has continued through their successful football careers.
Craig made history in 1985 by achieving the first 1,000-1,000 season in NFL history, a feat that contributed to his Hall of Fame recognition. Williams, who also played for the San Francisco 49ers, recalls their shared experiences growing up, including their athletic pursuits and adventures in their hometown.
Both athletes faced challenges throughout their careers, but Craig's determination and willingness to adapt, such as taking on a blocking role in college, showcased his team spirit. Their paths converged again when Craig encouraged Williams to join him with the 49ers, leading to a Super Bowl victory for Williams in 1989. Their journey from childhood friends to NFL stars will be celebrated during Craig's induction.
