Rohan Bopanna, a former world No. 1, will represent the Gurgaon Grand Slammers in the upcoming Tennis Premier League (TPL) Season 8, which is scheduled from December 8 to 13. He joins Rinky Hijikata, the 2023 Australian Open men's doubles champion, as marquee players for their respective teams ahead of the player auction on October 12 in Mumbai.
Bopanna expressed enthusiasm for the league, noting the increasing competitiveness and the blend of experienced players with young talent. The league will feature Argentina's Roman Burruchaga, the highest-ranked singles player at world No. 60, representing the Kolkata Thunder Blades. Hijikata will play for the Rajasthan Rangers, while other notable players include Terence Atmane for the Mumbai Royals and Dino Prizmic for the Hyderabad Strikers.
The TPL maintains its team-based format, incorporating men's and women's singles, men's doubles, and mixed doubles, all played in a fast-paced 25-point match structure.
