Romario Defends Ronaldo Amid Portugal Controversy
Cristiano Ronaldo's recent fallout with Portugal's head coach Jorge Jesus has drawn significant attention in the soccer community, with Brazilian icon Romario coming to Ronaldo's defense. Romario, a 1994 World Cup champion, stated that Ronaldo had valid reasons for departing the national team camp, although he noted one aspect of the situation that Ronaldo could have managed differently.
The conflict arose during Portugal's Nations League campaign when Ronaldo was benched against Norway despite warming up for about 30 minutes. Following this, he left the camp before the match against Denmark, claiming that Jesus had not honored prior agreements.
Romario emphasized that Ronaldo's feelings of disrespect were justified, particularly if the coach failed to keep his promises. He acknowledged his positive relationship with Jesus but insisted that personal ties should not cloud judgment. While supporting Ronaldo's choice to leave, Romario suggested that a direct confrontation with Jesus would have been a better approach to resolve the issue.
