Rory McIlroy Returns to PGA Tour Playoffs in Memphis

Rory McIlroy is participating in the FedEx St. Jude Championships in Memphis this week, a year after he opted out of the opening round of the PGA Tour playoffs for rest.

His decision to compete this year follows discussions with PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp and reflects his desire to maintain competitiveness after a four-week break. McIlroy, currently ranked No. 12 in the FedExCup standings, acknowledged the importance of a full field for the tour.

Last year, McIlroy skipped the Memphis event but returned for the BMW Championship, finishing tied for 12th. He plans to approach the upcoming playoff events as a continuous tournament, emphasizing the need to manage energy during the hot August conditions.
