Rory McIlroy Supports Return of LIV Golf Players to PGA Tour
Rory McIlroy has indicated that he would support the return of players from LIV Golf to the PGA Tour, asserting that the breakaway league no longer poses a threat to established tours.
Despite LIV Golf securing potential financing of $300 million from BC Partners Credit, uncertainty surrounds its future, highlighted by Jon Rahm's recent decision to leave the tour. McIlroy, a prominent critic of LIV since its launch in 2022, remarked that the league could have utilized its resources more effectively, suggesting that it wasted capital that could have been better invested in partnerships with golf's governing bodies.
As the DP World Tour announced that players joining LIV's 2027 season would not be permitted to compete in its events, McIlroy noted a trend of former LIV players opting out of the tour. He believes that the current situation makes it unlikely for LIV to regain its previous standing in professional golf.
