Royals Acquire Spencer Bivens from Giants
The Kansas City Royals have announced the acquisition of right-handed pitcher Spencer Bivens, who was claimed off waivers from the San Francisco Giants. Following his designation for assignment by the Giants earlier in the week, Bivens has been optioned to Triple-A.
Bivens lost his spot on the Giants' roster after they claimed another pitcher, Duncan Davitt, from the Braves. The 32-year-old has spent his entire professional career with San Francisco, participating in parts of three seasons in Major League Baseball.
His journey to the majors included two years at Division II Rogers State and time in independent leagues before joining the Giants in 2022. Bivens had a notable 2024 season at Triple-A, posting a 2.92 ERA and earning eight saves, which led to his first promotion to the big leagues. He has been a sporadic member of the Giants' bullpen, with his most significant contribution occurring last season when he appeared in 54 games. This year, however, he has only made four appearances, allowing four earned runs in two games. Bivens is known for his diverse pitching repertoire, utilizing at least six different pitches throughout his MLB career.
