Royals Call Up Anthony Gose from Triple-A Omaha

The Kansas City Royals have announced the selection of Anthony Gose's contract from Triple-A Omaha, bringing the left-handed pitcher back to the major leagues for the first time since 2024. Alongside Gose, the team has also recalled infielder Josh Rojas, while infielder Michael Massey has been placed on the seven-day concussion list and right-handed pitcher Mason Black has been optioned to Omaha.

Gose, who is 36 years old, previously pitched in the majors with the Cleveland Guardians, having made appearances in 2021, 2022, and 2024. He originally played as an outfielder for the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers from 2012 to 2016 but transitioned to pitching in 2017 after struggling in the outfield. Throughout his major league career, Gose has recorded a 4.78 ERA over 32 innings, showcasing impressive strikeout ability but inconsistent command.

Since signing a minor league deal with the Royals in April, Gose has primarily pitched out of the bullpen in Omaha, achieving a 4.89 ERA with a 27.6% strikeout rate this season. His recent performance has improved, with a 3.04 ERA and a 31.1% strikeout rate over the last couple of months. With Gose's addition, the Royals now have two left-handed options in their bullpen, as Connor Thomas has been the only other lefty on the roster.
