Royals Designate Drew Waters for Assignment After One Day on Roster

The Kansas City Royals have designated outfielder Drew Waters for assignment, a decision made just one day after he was added to the major league roster. This move was necessary to accommodate infielder Michael Massey's return from the injured list.

Waters, 27, was on the roster but did not participate in the game. He has not played in the major leagues this season and will now go through waivers for the second time this year. Previously, he was designated for assignment before Opening Day and went unclaimed, leading to his outright assignment to Triple-A Omaha.

Originally a second-round pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2017, Waters has struggled to establish himself in the majors, with a career batting line of .234/.300/.369. In Triple-A this season, he has shown some power and speed but has a batting average of .251 and a strikeout rate of 25.2%. Meanwhile, Massey, who has been on the concussion list, is expected to return as Kansas City's primary second baseman.
