Royals Place John Schreiber on Waivers

The Kansas City Royals have placed right-handed reliever John Schreiber on waivers, as reported by Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Teams now have a 48-hour window to claim him, although Schreiber remains eligible to play for the Royals during this period.

This marks the third instance this week of a non-contending team placing a player on waivers, following similar actions by the Reds and Mets. Schreiber, 32, is owed around $600K for the remainder of the 2026 season, which is his final year of team control.

Previously with the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox, Schreiber had a standout season in 2022 with a 2.22 ERA over 65 innings. After a solid but injury-affected 2023 season, he was traded to the Royals, where he has maintained a consistent performance, recording 23 holds in each of his first two seasons in Kansas City. In 2026, he has a 3.65 ERA across 49 1/3 innings, although his strikeout and walk rates have declined.
