Royals Sign Tony Gonsolin to Major League Contract

The Kansas City Royals have officially signed right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin to a major league contract for the 2026 season, which includes a club option for 2027. Following the signing, Gonsolin has been placed on the 15-day injured list.

To accommodate Gonsolin on the 40-man roster, the Royals designated fellow righty Eli Morgan for assignment. Gonsolin, 32, previously had a successful stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2019 to 2022, where he recorded a 2.51 ERA over 572 2/3 innings across 59 appearances, including 51 starts.

However, Gonsolin's recent history has been marred by injuries, including a left ankle sprain and forearm inflammation in 2023, which limited him to 20 starts and resulted in a 4.98 ERA. He underwent Tommy John surgery that August, missing the entire 2024 season. Although he aimed to return in 2025, he faced further setbacks, including a back injury and elbow discomfort that required additional surgery.
