Russia Launches Missile Strikes on Ukraine, Resulting in 20 Deaths
On October 7, Russia conducted extensive missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of at least 20 individuals, including children. The attacks were described by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as one of the most severe, coinciding with Russian President Vladimir Putin's birthday.
The most significant casualties occurred in Pryluky, where a missile strike destroyed a five-storey residential building, killing 14 people, among them four children. In addition to the fatalities, around 50 others were injured, including seven children. Zelenskiy reported that six additional deaths occurred in Kyiv, Oleksandria, and Kremenchuk during the overnight assault.
Russia's defense ministry claimed the strikes targeted military-industrial facilities in various regions, while Ukraine's air force reported intercepting over 80% of the drones launched. The attacks prompted Ukraine to implement partial emergency power cuts in five regions. Zelenskiy emphasized the ongoing challenge posed by Russian ballistic missiles and the need for advanced defense systems.
