Russia Open to New Proposals for Ukraine Peace Settlement
Russia has indicated its willingness to entertain new proposals aimed at settling the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, according to a senior diplomat. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated that any suggestions must reflect the current realities on the ground.
In an interview, Ryabkov noted that the U.S. has shown a readiness for constructive dialogue and an understanding of Russia's position. He emphasized the importance of U.S. influence over Ukraine and its European allies, who he claims still aspire for a strategic defeat of Russia.
Despite the openness to dialogue, negotiations between Russia and the U.S. have stalled, particularly amid the ongoing war in Iran. Ryabkov mentioned that Russia is prepared to consider new ideas from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, while also highlighting the need for discussions on nuclear weapons following the expiration of the New START treaty.
