During the race, Preece executed a strategic move on the backstretch, taking advantage of a collision involving Zane Smith and Tyler Reddick that resulted in a caution flag. This allowed Preece to maintain his lead and secure the win, reminiscent of the old format where winning guarantees a spot in the Chase.

Shane van Gisbergen, who finished 28th, was eliminated from the Chase standings after a late pit stop for fuel. Despite winning Stage 1, he expressed disappointment over not qualifying for the Chase.
