Saffie Osborne Makes History as First Female Jockey to Win St Leger

Saffie Osborne has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first female jockey to win a British Classic Flat race, taking the title in the St Leger at Doncaster while riding Highwayman.

The 24-year-old jockey surged ahead in the final stages of the race, which marked the 250th anniversary of the St Leger, the oldest Classic Flat race in the world. Trainer Joseph O'Brien celebrated a one-two finish, with his horse Enceladus coming in second, two-and-a-half lengths behind Highwayman.

Aidan O'Brien, who aimed for a record fourth consecutive St Leger win with Amelia Earhart, finished third, while pre-race favorite Christmas Day ended up in ninth place. Following her victory, Osborne expressed gratitude to Joseph O'Brien for the opportunity, noting the significance of the win for her career.
