Saffron Cresswell Transitions to Para-Canoe After Life-Altering Accident

Saffron Cresswell, a former eventing athlete, is preparing to compete in the Para-Canoe World Championships in Poznan, Poland, just eight months after a fall left her paralyzed. At 23, she was a talented rider with aspirations for the Olympics before her life changed dramatically due to the accident.

Following her hospitalization, Cresswell faced the challenge of adjusting to life at home without her horses. Determined to find a new sport, she began canoeing after being encouraged by Olympic athlete Deborah Kerr. Since her first experience in December, she has rapidly progressed, training extensively and achieving impressive times in her practice.

Cresswell's upcoming competition will focus on gaining an international classification, which is necessary for her to qualify for future events, including the 2028 Paralympics. Reflecting on her journey, she acknowledges the unexpected path her life has taken since her accident.
