Saido Berahino Retires from Football at Age 33 to Focus on Coaching
Saido Berahino, a former Premier League striker, has retired from football at the age of 33 to focus on coaching the Burundi national team. He gained prominence at West Bromwich Albion, where he scored 20 goals during the 2014-15 season before transferring to Stoke City for £12 million in January 2017.
Berahino's time at Stoke was challenging, culminating in the team's relegation from the Premier League in April 2018. Although he had a brief resurgence in the 2018-19 season, he was eventually released from the club in August 2019. Following his departure, he played in Belgium, Cyprus, India, and Slovenia, while also representing Burundi, where he scored twice in 23 appearances.
In a statement on Instagram, Berahino expressed gratitude to West Bromwich Albion for their support during his early career and reflected on his journey in football. He emphasized his commitment to giving back to Burundi and helping the next generation as he transitions into coaching.
