Saints Release RB Devin Neal and DE Michael Heldman from Injured Reserve

The New Orleans Saints announced the release of running back Devin Neal and defensive end Michael Heldman from injured reserve on Thursday, according to the NFL transaction wire.

Both players were placed on injured reserve as the Saints worked to reduce their roster size. If they were released with settlements, there is a possibility they could rejoin the team after those settlements are finalized.

Neal, who is 23 years old, was selected by the Saints in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft from Kansas. He signed a four-year rookie contract worth $4,451,312, which included a signing bonus of $251,312 and a base salary of $840,000 for the 2025 season. During that season, Neal participated in 10 games, rushing 57 times for 206 yards and two touchdowns, while also making 17 receptions for 104 yards.
