Sakshi Chaudhary's Weight Class Shift Proves Successful
Sakshi Chaudhary, a newly-crowned Commonwealth Games champion boxer, successfully transitioned from the 54kg to the 51kg weight class, a decision that paid off during the multi-sport event.
Previously a World junior champion and two-time World youth champion, Sakshi made the weight change after consulting her coach, Chhote Lal Yadav, following the National championships in January. This move was considered risky due to the presence of strong competitors in the 51kg category, including double World champion Nikhat Zareen.
Chhote Lal noted Sakshi's unique qualities, including her aggression and endurance, which contributed to her success in Glasgow. Former Indian women’s team head coach Bhaskar Bhatt praised her relentless performance at the Commonwealth Games, highlighting her need to refine her punching technique for greater effectiveness.
