Sam Ehlinger Competes for Broncos' Backup Quarterback Position
Sam Ehlinger has begun taking second-team snaps for the Denver Broncos, indicating a competitive push for the backup quarterback position against Jarrett Stidham. This development was reported by Mike Klis of 9News.
Stidham, who served as the backup to Bo Nix for the last two seasons, was observed working with the third team during practice. This marks the first instance of Ehlinger running the No. 2 offense while Nix is healthy, having previously backed up Stidham during the AFC Championship Game when Nix was sidelined due to an ankle injury.
Ehlinger had opportunities to join other teams last season but opted to stay on the Broncos' practice squad. Broncos head coach Sean Payton noted that the decision to retain Ehlinger was based on the potential for growth within the program and offense, suggesting that Ehlinger is eager to continue developing in this environment.
