Sam Gayfer Sets New AFL Draft Combine Record with Remarkable Training
Sam Gayfer, a top-10 prospect for the AFL Draft, recently set a new record at the AFL Draft Combine with a vertical jump of 114cm, surpassing the previous record by 7cm. This achievement followed a seven-week intensive training program after two years of dedicated effort.
Working closely with his strength and conditioning coach, Juy Lumsden, Gayfer aimed for a jump of 110cm, but exceeded expectations. His training included fine-tuning his jumping mechanics and optimizing his biomechanics to enhance his performance. Nutrition also played a crucial role in his development, as he gained approximately 15 kilograms during his training.
Despite not achieving his best time in the 20-metre dash, Gayfer's speed remains a notable aspect of his game. He is aware of the need to improve his cardiovascular endurance as he prepares for a significant pre-season. Gayfer's journey has included overcoming injuries and rehabilitation, but he now feels confident in his physical condition, ready to take on the challenges ahead.
