Sami Zayn Claims WWE Championship Again on SmackDown
Sami Zayn captured the WWE Championship once more during the SmackDown event in Mexico City on Friday, defeating CM Punk in the main event.
The match saw significant interference from Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae, with LeRae distracting the referee to allow Gargano to strike Punk with the championship belt. Although Punk countered with his GTS move, Zayn managed to capitalize on the chaos. Kevin Owens attempted to swing the title at Punk but inadvertently hit him instead. Zayn then executed a low blow on Owens and followed up with the helluva kick to secure the victory.
Zayn had previously won the title at Night of Champions, defeating Cody Rhodes and Gunther in a three-way match, but lost it to Punk shortly after on Raw. Following his loss, Zayn expressed frustration over not receiving another title shot, leading to his declaration that he would not accept any number one contenders until he got his rematch. After Punk's victory over Gargano last week, he granted Zayn the title match for this week's SmackDown.
