Sami Zayn has disclosed that he is dealing with a legitimate injury, specifically a broken bone in his hand, as reported during a backstage segment on the August 7 episode of WWE SmackDown.

Mike Johnson from PWInsider confirmed the authenticity of Zayn's injury, stating it is not part of a storyline. Zayn mentioned the injury while speaking to CM Punk, alongside Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae, indicating that he would have reacted differently if he were not injured.

Since SummerSlam on August 2, where he participated in a four-way match for the No. 1 contender spot for the WWE title, Zayn has not competed. His last televised match prior to that was on July 18, where he teamed with Gunther but lost to Punk and Cody Rhodes.
