This game marks the third and final match in Phase One for both teams. San Diego FC currently holds a record of 1-1, having lost 3-1 to Club América and won 1-0 against Club Tijuana. In contrast, Puebla has yet to secure a win, with two losses against Portland and Austin.

In the tournament format, each of the 36 participating clubs plays three matches against teams from the opposing league. The top four teams from both MLS and Liga MX will advance to the quarterfinals, while the top three finishers will qualify for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.
