Sara Curtis Sets New Women's 50m Backstroke World Record Again

Italian swimmer Sara Curtis has once again set a new world record in the women's 50m backstroke during the European Championships held in Paris. The 19-year-old achieved a time of 26.56 seconds, surpassing her previous record set just a day earlier.

Curtis's latest performance improved her own record by 0.007 seconds, following her semifinal time of 26.63 seconds. This achievement broke the former record held by Australian swimmer Kaylee McKeown, who had set a time of 26.86 seconds in 2023.

In addition to her record-breaking swims, Curtis has also earned three medals at the championships, including bronze in the 100m freestyle and silver in the 4x100m freestyle relay. She has been steadily approaching the world record throughout the year, having previously broken both Italian and European records. Meanwhile, McKeown is currently recovering from glandular fever, aiming to return for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
