Savannah DeMelo Files Lawsuit After Heart Attack on the Field

Savannah DeMelo, a player for the United States women's national soccer team, has initiated legal action against University of Louisville Health and two doctors after experiencing a heart attack during a match in September 2025.

The incident occurred during a National Women's Soccer League game between Racing Louisville and Seattle Reign on September 14, 2025. DeMelo's lawsuit, filed in Jefferson Circuit Court in Kentucky, alleges that the hospital and the doctors failed to provide adequate medical care, contributing to her severe injuries.

DeMelo, who has not played since her collapse, claims that she had been experiencing symptoms such as chest pain and dizziness prior to the incident. The lawsuit highlights that she was under the care of Dr. Jennifer Daily, Racing Louisville's chief medical officer, and was referred to Dr. Sarabjeet Suri for further evaluation. Following the cardiac arrest, she was diagnosed with ventricular tachycardia.
