After India's best World Cup finish in 52 years, Savita Punia, the former captain and goalkeeper of the national team, reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi via social media, urging him to support the Women's Hockey India League (WHIL). This appeal came shortly after India secured fifth place in the tournament held in Amstelveen, a significant achievement since their fourth-place finish in 1974.

In her messages, Savita highlighted the critical role of WHIL in nurturing talent and creating opportunities for future athletes. She tagged several prominent figures, including government ministers and celebrities, to rally support for the league, which she believes is essential for the growth of women's hockey in India.

Despite the team's recent success, Savita expressed concern over the uncertain future of WHIL, emphasizing that without a league, there would be no talent pool for the next generation.
