Scorpio Sky Reflects on Learning About AEW's Formation
Scorpio Sky, an original member of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), recounted his first encounter with the idea of the promotion during a car ride with The Young Bucks in early 2019. He learned about AEW's potential from Matt Jackson, who mentioned a message from Tony Khan about starting a new wrestling company.
The announcement of AEW's launch occurred on New Year's Day 2019, with Khan appointed as CEO and President. Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks took on executive roles while Sky was among the wrestlers revealed for the promotion. Sky described the early days as a unique experience, likening the team environment to that of an expansion sports team, where everyone felt united in their efforts.
AEW's first pay-per-view, Double or Nothing, took place in May 2019, followed by the premiere of its flagship show, AEW Dynamite, in October. Currently, Sky is nearing the end of his five-year contract with AEW, having held both the Tag Team and TNT Championships during his tenure.
