Scott Borthwick to Retire from Professional Cricket

Scott Borthwick, the former captain of Durham and a past England player, has announced his retirement from professional cricket, effective at the end of the current season.

Borthwick began his career with Durham at the age of 18, debuting in a T20 Blast match in 2008. Over his 18-year career, he played 222 first-class matches, achieving a batting average of 34.55 and scoring over 11,500 runs, including 22 centuries. He also contributed as a part-time leg spinner, taking 229 wickets.

After leading Durham to the County Championship Division Two title in 2023, Borthwick transitioned to a player-coach role before deciding to focus on coaching full-time. He expressed pride in his achievements and excitement for his future with the club.
