Scott Coker Seeks Rule Change for Ki MMA
Scott Coker has submitted a formal request to California regulators to allow knees to grounded opponents in his Ki MMA promotion. This request was made to the California State Athletic Commission, which will discuss the matter at a stakeholders meeting scheduled for December 1.
Coker aims to adopt specific global MMA rules for Ki MMA, while excluding soccer kicks and stomps. Former fighter Josh Thomson noted that Coker specifically seeks to permit knees to the head of grounded opponents, a move currently prohibited by unified rules. Coker expressed his belief that MMA should continue to evolve and highlighted the request to integrate elements of global MMA rules.
Ki MMA, launched in September by Coker and business partner Rich Chou, plans to host a 32-fighter featherweight grand prix in a ring format. If the rule change is approved, it would differentiate Ki MMA from organizations like UFC and PFL, which adhere to unified rules in North America. The California regulators will address this proposal in six weeks.
