Scottie Scheffler Reflects on His FedEx Cup Victory and Format Changes
Scottie Scheffler recently won his second FedEx Cup title at East Lake, Atlanta, but he expressed ongoing frustration regarding his first victory in 2024. During that tournament, he started with a significant lead, yet he noted that the format, which included staggered starting scores, affected the competition's integrity.
In his 2024 win, Scheffler began at 10 under par, ultimately securing the title despite Collin Morikawa posting the lowest score that week. Reflecting on the experience, Scheffler mentioned that playing with a lead for an extended period altered his approach, making it challenging to maintain focus and strategy.
He welcomed the PGA Tour's decision to eliminate starting strokes in the tournament format, believing it creates a more genuine competition. Scheffler acknowledged that while he appreciated the changes, he still feels a sense of dissatisfaction about not having the best score during his first championship win.
