Scottish Police Investigate Reports of Missing Athletes After Commonwealth Games
Police in Scotland are investigating reports of several athletes who are unaccounted for following the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow.
According to Ugandan media, four boxers from Uganda's team did not return with the rest of their delegation, which was scheduled to leave for Uganda on Tuesday. Additionally, a boxer from the Pakistan team has also been reported missing.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed that inquiries are ongoing to understand the situation, with initial discussions taking place with the Home Office. Historically, there have been instances of athletes seeking asylum after Commonwealth Games events, including those in 2014 and 2018. The Games' chief executive emphasized the importance of safety and security, noting the collaboration with various authorities to ensure compliance with regulations.
