Sean McVay Questions Blocked Field Goal's Trajectory After Loss
Following the Rams' overtime defeat to the Bills, coach Sean McVay stated that the team's field goal unit was responsible for the loss. The next day, kicker Harrison Mevis was released from the roster.
McVay indicated that even if the field goal attempt from 48 yards had not been blocked by Gregory Rousseau, he believed it would have missed the target due to its trajectory. He noted that the kick appeared misaligned and suggested that the block may have inadvertently helped it reach the crossbar.
The Rams have since signed a new kicker, who McVay described as possessing a quiet confidence and humility. Special-teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone highlighted the new kicker's strong leg and ability to achieve good elevation on kicks, which are crucial for successful field goal attempts.
