The incident occurred as McMillen was walking out for his fight against Marwan Rahiki, where he ultimately won by unanimous decision. O'Malley reacted after an intoxicated fan shouted insults for about two minutes, rolling his hat into a ball and hitting the fan in the face.

O'Malley had informed his coach, Tim Welch, of his intention to respond to the heckler. This event is reminiscent of a previous altercation involving Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300, which resulted in a penalty from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. O'Malley continues to support McMillen's ascent in the featherweight rankings, while he remains without a fight scheduled.
